why, now that Twin Peaks Season 2 is out on DVD, is Twin Peaks Season 1 out of print?
(Though I have read that the pilot, Season 1, and Season 2 are going to be combined and put out perhaps later this year.)
You know, cause it costs so much to produce DVDs . . .

the season 1 box set was produced by a different company than the season 2 set. the former which owned the rights to season 1 (but not the master prints or season 2) until 2005 or something. they had to cooperate with paramount (who owned the masters but didn't own the dvd publishing rights) in order to get season 1 released. The pilot falls under different rights and has not been released in the US at all. I have the semi-bootleg taiwanese print of that -- the sound is 1/4 tone sharp throughout.
so the bottom line is that the company that published S1 actually can't print any more. there is a massively complicated copyright imbroglio surrounding this deal; it is actually probably worse than I have presented it.
Either that or it was the fault of that Hong Kong gang that Josie was running from.
