Cock and Bull.

Saw the Tristram Shandy movie last night. The problem is it wasn't very funny. Or rather, parts of it were funny, but it was too dry. It needed more zany-ness. The dream sequence when Tristram was in the tiny womb was pretty good, but it needed more of it.

The other problem, as K. noted, was the neither Walter, nor the character playing Walter, was likeable. In the book isn't Walter sort of big and boisterous? In the movie he's very reserved. And the character who plays he and Tristram is really unlikeable, which makes it hard to like the characters he plays, and if you don't like the characters of Walter and Tristram, the book fails. If nothing else, the book has eminently likeable characters.

It is worth seeing once.
