When I was working on my PM chapter, my advisors kept saying, "You know, this is interesting, but it's not criticism. You're making an argument about history using this fiction, but you're not actually arguing anything about the fiction." And they were right.
I've realized however, that that was what I enjoyed writing most. I was actually interested in it. I felt like I was writing something that, god forbid, was actually, potentially entertaining. Let's face it, most literary criticism might be interesting, but it's not entertaining.
What was it? Was it cultural criticism? I don't think it was really history (though I guess it might of been a kind of new historicism). I'd switch teams, if I knew what team I was going to and if I thought I could pull it off.

I like this idea. I need to reread the chapter, though.
It probably won't surprise you that I had the same "problem" and that I feel the same way.
